Medical R&D funding roadmap
Know which funding to go after first.
When you have several projects, or a mix of tax credits and grants, one can affect another and the deadlines don’t line up. A funding roadmap shows what to pursue, in what order, and what each one needs from you.
When is a roadmap worth it?
When the funding decisions affect each other. That usually means several projects competing for time, more than one organization involved (your corporation, a hospital, a university), or past work and future work that could both be funded.
The roadmap itself is short: the programs worth pursuing, why each one fits, what to do next and by when. It gets updated when your plans or the programs change.
An example. A medtech team has finished its prototype experiments and is planning a validation study. First, Ethan reviews the finished work for a possible SR&ED claim. Next, he looks for grants for the validation study, before it starts. Finally, he makes sure the same costs aren’t counted twice, because a grant can reduce what you claim for SR&ED. This shows the order of work; it isn’t an estimate of funding.
